collecting-fish-from-the-chippewa-river
Graduate and undergraduate students in biology professor Tracy Galarowicz's class use electro-fishing to collect fish from the Chippewa River. The students put an electrical circuit in the water that momentarily stuns the fish.

Learning beyond the classroom
The College of Science and Technology provides many resources and opportunities for educational experiences beyond the classroom.
gold-arrow Field and laboratory experiences are woven throughout the curricula. Geology, geography, biology, and environmental science courses are enriched by field work. Laboratory components in chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, and mathematics classes enable students to acquire knowledge through hands-on experience.
gold-arrow Research opportunities encourage undergraduate students to develop a passion for discovery and invention. Exploring new territory stimulates intellectual growth and provides valuable career experience. Students have the opportunity to present their research findings.
gold-arrow Internships help students make connections between the classroom and careers. Many opportunities exist for science and technology students to participate in internships closely related to their professional interests. Some programs, such as environmental studies and information technology, require internships.
gold-arrow The Science and Technology Residential College makes its home in Woldt Residence Hall with classrooms and lab buildings located nearby. The purpose of the residential college is to provide an on-campus learning environment that fosters the academic success of students pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

"Weather affects everyone's everyday lives. Everyone wants to know what the weather will be today."
CMU is the only university in Michigan with an undergraduate degree in meteorology. Meteorology majors get a broad science background, including physics and chemistry, and they earn a mathematics minor. There are many career options for meteorologists: broadcasting, aviation, the military, the National Weather Service, or large construction companies or organizations whose work is affected by the weather.
