Sound management practices requires accurate estimates of harvest rates. Harvet limits in Michigan vary between the two peninsulas with former regulations limiting
sportsmen to three cats with no more than one coming from Michigan's Lower Peninsula. During this period a significant percentage of animals appeared to be
misreported regarding their peninsula of capture. Recently, the Michigan DNR altered the
harvest limits so that no more than two cats could be harvested in Michigan with no more than one animal coming from the Lower Peninsula. We are using microsatellites
to determine if the new harvest laws have altered the frequency of misreporting of the peninsula of harvest by sportsmen.
