MATH RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

for

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

(Longterm Undergraduate Research Experience in Mathematics)

DRAFT, June 30, 2007

The SHSU Department of Mathematics and Statistics anticipates National Science Foundation (NSF) funding for a series of Undergraduate Research Fellowships, beginning 2008.   SHSU students would receive support for up to two years to collaborate with mathematics faculty on undergraduate research.

Beginning in summer 2008, we will offer six fellowships under the supervision of professor Ken Smith and other SHSU math faculty.

Applicants for this program should be first- or second-year students at Sam Houston.  Students need not be math majors but must be willing to commit to a program of study in mathematics while involved in this research.  Undergraduate researchers will receive summer support of $ 3500 for a ten week summer program with continued involvement in research throughout the following academic year and an option for renewal for a second summer and academic year. Students will also receive a summer housing allowance.

Interested students are encouraged to contact Ken Smith (KenWSmith@shsu.edu, 936-294-1563) for further information.
