Research Experience for Undergraduates

Summer 2007

 

The Department of Mathematics at Central Michigan University is hosting a National Science Foundation summer program to provide Research Experience for Undergraduates.

 

Program: Eight students will be chosen to work with faculty members of the Mathematics Department. Professors John Daniels, Sivaram Narayan and Ken Smith will guide the student research.

 

Topics: The topics to be studied will be in the areas of Algebra, Combinatorics, Matrix Theory and Statistical Modeling.

 

Dates:  June 4 - July 27, 2007.

 

Stipends:  Each student will receive a stipend of $3,360, lodging and a meal allowance.  Some money is available for travel to the REU site and to make presentations at conferences.

 

Applications:  Students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and will be undergraduates in Fall 2007 are eligible to apply. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should have completed a second course in Calculus and a course in Linear Algebra by May 2007.  Preference will be given to applications received by February 23, 2007.
