Weeks 1 & 2 (Aug 28, 30, Sept 6)

Chapter 1: Fields, Systems of Linear Equations, Elementary Row Operations.

Sections 2.1-2.4: Vector spaces, bases, change of coordinates.

Week 3 (Sept 11, 13) Finishing chapter 2: Change of coordinates, wrapping up row equivalence.

Computations with subspaces.

Week 4 (Sept 18, 20) Sections 3.1-3.4, Linear Transformations and their representation by matrices

Week 5 (Sept 25, 27) Sections 3.5-3.7. Linear functionals, the dual, double dual, and transpose.

Week 6 (Oct 2, 4) Chapter 4, Polynomials (including Lagrange interpolation & factorization properties of polynomials.)

Weeks 7 & 8 (Oct 9, 11, 16, 18) Chapter 5: Determinants. Midterm Exam. We finish chapter 5.

Week 9 (Oct 23, 25) We finish chapter 5 and begin Elementary Canonical forms (sections 6.1-6.4)

Week 10 (Oct 30, Nov 1) Elementary Canonical forms (sections 6.1-6.4)

Week 11 (Nov 6, 8) We continue in chapter 6 on Elementary Canonical forms.

Weeks 12 & 13 (Nov 13, 15, 20) We finish chapter 6 and begin chapter 7 (on Jordan and Rational forms)

Week 14 (Nov 27, 29) Chapter 8, Inner product spaces (tentative)

Week 15 (Dec 4, 6) Chapter 9?, toward the spectral theorem (very tentative)
