Syllabus :Objectives: A seminar class will explore the world of autoimmune diseases such as diabetes, aids, and allergies. Methodolgy: This is a discussion course with each student being responsible for presenting several oral presentations of articles from the literature. With each oral presentation of 15-30 minutes the student will have references from the library and then lead a discussion of this work. Each student will be graded on his/her oral presentations and discussion of each paper. The final will be a written exam on an autoimmune disease. Medlineplus: Evaluation: Oral Presentatins 40 % Discussion 20 % Term Paper 20% Final Exam 20% The term paper will be a synopsis dealing with a specific autoimmune disease and its effects on immunity based upon information from at least 7 original research articles from the current scientific journals. A photo-copy of the first page of each article will be included with the paper. This paper should be no less than 7 typed pages in the body, not including title page and references. The paper may not have been used for any other course or being used for another current course. .
