What's on the Clip

 

 

SPSS consists of four main windows

bullet

the DATA window: A spreadsheet-like window that allows you to enter your data as an SPSS worksheet. This is the first window you will see when you run SPSS.

bullet

the OUTPUT Viewer window: A window that holds all of the results from performing any analysis. This will show as a result of your first analysis.

bullet

the SYNTAX window: A window that allows you to create an SPSS program. This will show when you create an  SPSS program file.

bullet

the CHART window: A window that displays graphs which can be edited. This will show when you want to edit or create a graph.

In this on-line workshop, you will find many movie clips. Each movie clip will demonstrate some specific usage of SPSS. The following  movie clip will take you through basic steps for analyzing a survey project.

Description of the project:

A pre/post-test was conducted to assess how much students understand basic concepts of a mathematics course. A survey of 20 items was conducted at the beginning and at the end of a semester. The survey consists of 5 items on background information, 5 items on attitude and 10 items on knowledge. For demonstration purpose,  2 background, 2 attitudes and 3 knowledge items will be used here.

Getting Started Movie Clip

This movie clip demonstrates the following activities:

bulletTo create/save a simple SPSS data in the DATA Window
bulletTo run frequency tables and descriptive statistics and get the results in the OUTPUT window
bulletTo create/edit Pie/Bar charts in the CHART window
bulletTo create an SPSS program for doing the above analysis in the SYNTAX window
bulletTo print/save the output and syntax files
