Photosynthesis Presentation

  1. Know the organelle in which photosynthesis takes place

  2. Know the two parts of the chloroplast (granna and stoma) where different portions of photosynthesis takes place.

  3. Be able to recognize the generalized equation describing photosynthesis.

  4. Know that photosynthesis is composed of two parts, a light dependent (LIGHT REACNON) and light independent (DARK REACNON). Be able to describe and recognize the materials which are reactants and products of each of these two phases of photosynthesis.

  5. Know that chlorophyll a is the primary pigment in photosynthesis, and be able to recognize examples of the accessory pigments.

  6. Be able to recognize that the light reaction is composed of two parts, called photosystem I and photosystem II.  Know how electrons are excited in each of these systems, and how electrons flow between them.  Also, recognize that ATP is produced as electrons flow between these two photosystems.

  7. Recognize the importance of ATP and NADPH production in the light reaction and how it is used in the dark reaction.

  8. Know that carbon dioxide is utilized as a carbon source in the dark reaction (light independent-Calvin cycle).

  9. Know that ATP and NADPH are utilized in the dark reaction as high energy sources to 'drive' this cycle, and that it is here that glucose (stored chemical energy) is produced.

  10. Know the colors which are most important in photosynthesis, and why.

  11. Know the reactants and products of the light reaction and dark reaction in photosynthesis.
