Where is the Mathematics Assistance Center located?
We are located in the basement of the Towers in Troutman 002. People at the Towers front desk can tell you how to get there.
What classes can a student receive help in?
We primarily help students with Math 055, 105, 106, 107, 130, 132, 133, 203, 217, and Stats 282. However, we can sometimes provide help with higher level math courses. Also, we can help students in non-math courses to answer math-related material. You MUST bring notes and other material from your course if it's not listed above.

What is a student expected to bring to tutoring?
Please bring your textbook, notes, and calculator. Attempt as much of your homework as possible before coming to tutoring. Also, you will need your Student ID card to sign in.
Do I need to schedule an appointment?
No. All math tutoring is walk-in. You will receive help as quickly as tutors can get around to you. During a busy night, this may take as long as 10 minutes. Please be patient!
What do I do when I arrive at the Mathematics Assistance Center?
There will be a large poster directing people to a card-swipe to sign in. If you forget your card, you will have to write your name, class, and the time you came in for math help.
How much help can a student receive?
You are welcome to come as many hours as you wish to receive help. However, if you feel you have a need for an individual tutor, we can help you find one. The goal of tutoring is to help prepare a student to succeed in class. You can expect tutors to thoroughly explain math concepts in your material, clarify any questions you may have, and work through example problems. You cannot expect tutors to do your assignments for you, whether they are homework, quizzes, or exams. Tutors will not have answers for every question.
Does tutoring actually help?
Yes! Using data from our first semester in Fall 2006, we have concluded that a student who attends the math center regularly has a 60% higher chance to receive a C or better their math course. Many students have found tutoring to be successful and come back for more help with other math courses.
