Serier Mathematics Scholarship
In honor of Professor Lester H. Serier and his son, Jack D. Serier, the Lester H. and Jack D. Serier Endowed Memorial Scholarship fund was established in 2001. Professor Serier was a Mathematics Department faculty member from 1939 to 1980. He served as Department Chairman from 1958 to 1959 and from 1961 to 1965.
The number, amount and recipient(s) of the Scholarship will be determined by the Mathematics Department in consultation with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
A recipient will be a CMU student with junior or senior status majoring in mathematics who has a record of academic excellence as demonstrated by a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4 point scale. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.
Selection of students to be awarded this scholarship will be made by a committee composed of the Chairman of the Department of Mathematics and such other persons as the Chair may designate. The decision will be made on the basis of:
a. two professional references;
b. grades in university/college courses, especially mathematics;
c. university/college mathematics courses completed;
d. a paragraph written by the student; and
e. other factors.

a. complete a Mathematics Scholarship Application form*,
b. list the names and email addresses of two professional
references on your application form.
