Math 132 Diagnostic Test

The test given below is meant to serve as a gauge to give the student feedback on whether s/he is placed appropriately in Math 132 (Calculus I). The test does not have any authority in the actual placement, but is designed to help the student decide if s/he should remain enrolled in Math 132, drop back to Math 130 (Pre-Calculus), or consider taking Math 133 (Calculus II). Since various high school mathematics curricula are difficult to compare, this test will give the student an idea of the expectations for background knowledge upon entering Math 132. The following rubric can be used to help the student make a decision as to whether or not to remain in Math 132, however, before making a decision it is strongly recommended that the student consult his/her instructor before dropping Math 132.

If the student scored:

0-3 s/he should consider dropping back to Math 130
4-7 s/he appears to have the background to be successful in Math 132
8-10 s/he should consider taking Math 133 instead.

Again we emphasize that this test is for advisement only. Before dropping Math 132 the student should discuss the decision with his/her instructor.

Note: The test and answer key are in "PDF" format. You will need a PDF viewer, browser plug-in or application to view or print these documents. Most computers will already be set up with this software.
