The Department of Geology administers and awards several Scholarships to students on a merit basis: Crider Scholarships:
The Crider Scholarships are tuition scholarships that are awarded yearly,
typically on a semester-by-semester basis. These scholarships are awarded
to students with strong potential for successful careers in geology. The
awardees are chosen by the faculty following a two-phase review process:
1) an evaluation of a written application submitted by the student, and
2) an verbal interview of the candidate by the entire faculty. Crider
scholarships may range in size from one to fifteen credit-hours of tuition.
The Crider Scholarship was made possible by Mid-Michigan Development Corporation. T.S. Knapp Field Camp Scholarships: The
T.S. Knapp Field Camp Scholarships are partial tuition scholarships
that
are awarded to students enrolled in approved summer field courses. The
awards are made by the departmental faculty following evaluation of
a
written application by the student; they typically range from $50 to
$500 dollars. The scholarship was established in memory of Tom Knapp,
one of
the founding members of the CMU Department of Geology. Funds for the
scholarship are provided by alumni and friends of the Geology Department
in the hope
that recipients replenish the fund in future years for the benefit of
the next generation of geology students.
