Financial Aid

Various University Scholarships are awarded and administered the CMU Office of Financial Aid. Students should inquire at this office about various scholarships and other awards.

The Department of Geology usually employs several students through the College Work Study Program administered through the CMU Office of Financial Aid. The CMU Financial Aid Office can supply information and assistance in applying for financial aid other than College Work Study.

The Department of Geology administers and awards several Scholarships to students on a merit basis:

Crider Scholarships: The Crider Scholarships are tuition scholarships that are awarded yearly, typically on a semester-by-semester basis. These scholarships are awarded to students with strong potential for successful careers in geology. The awardees are chosen by the faculty following a two-phase review process: 1) an evaluation of a written application submitted by the student, and 2) an verbal interview of the candidate by the entire faculty. Crider scholarships may range in size from one to fifteen credit-hours of tuition. The Crider Scholarship was made possible by Mid-Michigan Development Corporation.

The scholarship was established in memory of Tom Knapp, one of the founding members of the CMU Department of Geology.
