Geology at Central Michigan University

Geology is a broad science that comprises diverse studies of the earth. Geoscientists play increasingly important roles in modern society by dealing with fundamental geology-based problems such as management of energy and mineral resources, recognition and mitigation of ground and surface water pollution, evaluation of the possibility and implications of induced global climatic change, and assessment of natural hazards such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides.

A career in the geological sciences can be both professionally and personally rewarding. The study of geology also provides a good foundation for those interested in collecting minerals, rocks, fossils, and gemstones.
