Environmental Science Concentration
The Environmental Science concentration is for students who prefer a career with a company or agency involved in studying the natural environment or developing technical solutions to environmental problems. If you are interested in an analytical or science-intensive degree preparing you for technical professions involved in environmental problem-solving this concentration is for you. Additional requirements for the science concentration include courses in chemistry, physics, soils, and hydrogeology. Electives are chosen from a variety of scientific and policy-related courses.
Environmental Science is the second concentration available on the Environmental Studies Major at CMU. This concentration is designed for students who prefer a scientific degree preparing them for technical professions related to the study and analysis of our natural environment.
Students are required to take courses in economics, political science, and environmental law & regulation as well as courses in the sciences. Environmental Studies also requires that students take a second major in a related discipline. These two requirements ensure that each student's training includes both the breadth and the depth needed to tackle today's complex environmental problems.
