Undergraduate Department of Chemistry Scholarships



Frank and Virjean Johnson Endowed Scholarship
Minimum $500

Elegibility Criteria

  1. Minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
  2. During odd numbered years, applicants must be a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics who are pursuing a degree in secondary education.
  3. During even numbered years, applicants must be a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics
  4. For this scholarship to be renewed a 3.50 overall GPA must be maintained.

Mary Jane Merrill Scholarship
Approx. $2,1001

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Second semester junior with a signed chemistry or biochemistry major (as of 3/1/2006)
  2. Minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average
  3. Must have completed the following CMU courses (or equivalent transfer credits):
    1. CHM 131 & 132 or CHM 161
    2. CHM 211
    3. CHM 345 & 346
  4. Must be currently enrolled in at least one chemistry course

Malcolm Filson Scholarship
Approx. $8001

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Second semester sophomore with a signed chemistry or biochemistry major (as of 3/1/ 2006)
  2. Minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average
  3. Must have completed the following CMU courses (or equivalent transfer credits):
    1. CHM 131 & 132 or CHM 161
    2. CHM 211 or 331 or 345
  4. Must be currently enrolled in at least one chemistry course

Chemistry Department Scholarship
Approx. $1,0002

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Second semester freshman with a signed chemistry or biochemistry major (as of 3/1/2006)
  2. Minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average
  3. Must have completed the following CMU courses (or equivalent transfer credits):
    1. CHM 131 or 132 or 161
  4. Must be currently enrolled in at least one chemistry course

Eligible students desiring to be considered for one of these scholarships must submit an application by March 28, 2008 to the Chemistry Department Office (Dow 268). Late applications will not be considered. The Department Operations Committee will screen the applications for eligibility and may rank them at its discretion. All eligible candidates will be forwarded to the department for selection by majority vote of the faculty.
