STRC Guidelines
As a member of the STRC, you will have an opportunity to interact with the College of Science and Technology (CST) community, as well as the broader Central Michigan University (CMU) community. Although your experience in the STRC, as well as your success at CMU, is largely based on your academic achievement, your involvement in the STRC should be an enriching experience and we are here to help you achieve your goals. Remember, all STRC information is available here on this web site, and also on the STRC Blackboard site.

The Basic Requirements

All STRC forms should be turned in at the College of Science and Technology Dean's Office, located in Room 200 of the ET Building. These forms are your responsibility, so be careful not to lose them! Extra copies are always available here on this web site and the STRC Blackboard site.

1.
Participation Records and Academic Event Participation Forms
If you want to receive credit for participating in an academic, social or service event, you will need to have the appropriate form with you at the time of the event.

a)
For social and service events (or programs), all you need is your current Participation Record. Make sure you fill out the top portion of your Participation Record with your name and other required information immediately (sponsors are directed not to sign the forms that leave this information blank). Sponsor signatures should be obtained at the conclusion of an event or program in a non-disruptive manner.

b)
You need to have an Academic Event Participation Form when you attend an academic program or event. Please fill out the form prior to obtaining the sponsor's signature. When you attend a seminar, NEVER approach the speaker for their signature (it is very rude and unprofessional). You should ask a faculty member of the STRC Advisory Council or a faculty member you personally know (perhaps from class) for their signature after the conclusion of the seminar. At a seminar, you may ask a Graduate Teaching Assistant that you know to sign your form if a faculty member is not available.

2.
Advising Forms
Each semester, you will need to meet with your CST faculty advisor regarding courses you should take and your academic progress. It is important that you do this in a timely manner; make sure to schedule an appointment with your advisor well before the Academic Advising Form is due.
Remember, if you do not have your advising form turned in on time, you will not be eligible for pre-registration!
Make sure that you come prepared to your advising meeting by researching possible courses to take, making a list of questions you would like answered, and thinking about your immediate and long term goals. When designing your schedule, make sure to include at least 6 credits of CST courses each semester.
Finally, remember that if you do decide to wait last minute to schedule your advising appointment, you may be out of luck! Just like you, faculty members have busy schedules with classes, meetings, other duties, etc.

Helpful Hints
1.
Keep up on your studies
College is a busy time and there is always plenty to do! Remember that the underlying purpose of all college experiences is learning, and this of course, includes your classes. Make sure that you keep up with your studies and understand how you are performing in your courses. Early in the semester, ask yourself, "How am I doing?" and "Do I need help?" The earlier you realize that you are having trouble, the easier it is to get help and salvage the semester! Understand how to calculate your grade and do not be afraid to meet with your instructors if you have questions.
