The American Academy of Physician Assistants describes physician
assistants as "health professionals licensed to practice medicine with
physician supervision including primary and specialty care in medical and
surgical practice settings." About a third provide services in hospitals,
40% in solo or group office, 10% in rural or inner city health clinics and
15% for government agencies.
