Pharmacists dispense medications prescribed by physicians and other
authorized health care practitioners. Some of the many fields of
specialization open to the pharmacist include: community pharmacy (most
pharmacists are engaged in this type of professional practice), hospital
pharmacy, industrial pharmacy (production, research, administration and
sales), pharmaceutical journalism, advertising, public health, research,
and law enforcement. Pharmacists may work alone, with other pharmacists or
as a member of a team of health care professionals. They may supervise
pharmacy assistants and other employees or be supervised by a pharmacy
owner, pharmacy director or a more experienced pharmacist.
