Special Examinations & Required License
Successful applicants to pharmacy schools
must pass the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT). The exam is taken in
October or February of your second year, after or while you are taking
organic chemistry. Many colleges calculate grade points in the sciences as
well as considering overall GPA. All states require pharmacists to be
licensed. They must graduate from an accredited college of pharmacy and
generally complete an internship either prior to or after graduation. At
least five to six years of post-secondary study are required which
generally includes clinical practice under the direction of a licensed
pharmacist. Most schools offer a doctorate of pharmacy curriculum.
