Physician Assistant - Links to Program  Coursework

The Biology Department offers a major in biology with a pre-Physician Assistant orientation. This program leads to a bachelor's degree as well as satisfaction of the course requirements for entrance into Central Michigan University's Physician Assistant program. Note that completion of this major does not guarantee admission into CMU's PA program. Admission to CMU's program, like all other PA programs, is highly competitive. CMU prerequisites are met by courses in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, chemistry, biochemistry, psychology, and biostatistics.

Typical First Semester Schedule at CMU
Chemistry  131 (4 cr.)
Math 106 (3 cr.) or higher
English 101 (3 cr.) or SDA 101 (3 cr.)
Biology 101P (3 cr.)
Humanities Elective (3 cr.)

IMPORTANT
All pre-professional students need to see their pre-professional adviser as early as possible.  Planning a course of study with a CMU adviser is critical since entrance requirements vary from one school to another.  Students must also make early contact with schools to which they may be applying.

Students who intend to graduate with a degree from CMU must complete, and have their adviser sign, a "Major Authorization" form prior to finishing 56 credit hours.

Students who plan to transfer to a professional school must complete and have their adviser sign an "Intent to Declare Major" form prior to completing 56 credit hours.

Forms available at the Registrars Office or your adviser.
