Forestry/Conservation - Links to Program FAQ

Are there different kinds of forestry?
Yes. These, in part, relate to the type of employment desired. General forestry, and industrial forestry are examples.

What is the current job market for foresters?
The market varies from region to region in the U.S. Right now the SE States are most promising with the Western U.S. second. Students determined to be foresters should make sure they are in the top half of their forestry graduating class as not every graduate is offered a job.

What one set of skills are most needed for effective work as a forester?
Professional foresters surveyed by the Society of American Foresters reported "communication skills" as being extremely important. This would include the writing of letters and reports and speaking to a group.
