Engineers are the link between scientific discovery and practical application. They analyze problems and develop design solutions. They may work with a variety of professionals including scientists, business managers, doctors, lawyers, and government officials. They should be able to work as members of a team, have an aptitude for mathematics, science, and have a capacity for detail.

Difference Between Engineering and Technology:
An engineer has a strong background in mathematics and the basic physical and engineering sciences. The engineer must be a conceptualizer, a designer, a developer, a producer of standards - all to help meet societal needs.

Whereas technology involves the application of scientific and engineering knowledge and methods combined with technical skills in support of engineering activities. The technologist must be able to devise systems from proven concepts, develop and produce products, service machines and systems, and manage construction and production processes. CMU also provides a number of four-year technology programs.  Information about CMU technology programs can be found by going to <www.iet.cmich.edu>.
