Fall 2008 Highlights
- Undergraduate student Ashly Smith was awarded a $350 Undergraduate Student Presentation Grant toward her from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to help support the costs of a January 2009 trip to the American Astronomical Society meeting in Long Branch, Calif.
- M.S. students Beth Grzenia and Maiko Yamachika each received Graduate Student Research and Creative Endeavors grants from the College of Graduate Studies. Each will receive a $1,000 award to help cover research costs.
- This year Aurelian Balan, Dr. Veronica Barone, Chamila Dharmawardhana, Dr. Jan Fiala, Diego Franco, Dr. Zaochun Gao, Dr. Talal Ghannam, John Kamau, Dr. Daniel Lemessurier, Dr. Ma Li, Dan Nowiski, Dr. Juan Peralta, Dr. Christopher Tycner, Clark VanDam, and Kaitlyn Witt were inducted into Sigma-Pi-Sigma.
- Professor Valeri Petkov received the President's Award, CMU's most prestigious research award. The award recognizes career achievements of senior faculty members.
- Dr. Mihai Horoi was named to the Advisory Board of the UNEDF Collaboration, a large group of scientists at various institutions across the United States, Europe, and Japan working in the area of theoretical nuclear physics.
