Fall 2008 Highlights
- Software Center. CMU 2010 (internal funding) has funded a software development center to act as a place for students to develop their skills.
- Network Lab. The department has developed a network lab that uses Virtualization (using VM). The lab has been created through donations of older equipment and department purchases. This lab is used by Information Technology students to design, implement, and secure networks.
- Storage. A development direction in storage was started within the last year in an effort to teach the use of large capacity storage for systems. The department has purchased two 24 terabyte storage devices and are developing courses that will capitalize on these purchases.
- NIH grant. The department was awarded a grant to examine diagnostic results from premature newborn hearts to predict brain bleeding.
- Sun Center of Excellence. The department is currently in negotiation with Sun Microsystems to become a Sun Center of Excellence, with the hope that it would allow a partnership with Sun on their effort in utilizing network attached storage (NAS) in an improved manner.
