| With the help of a $78,000 three-year grant from the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians, biology associate professor Thomas Gehring and several Central Michigan University students have been monitoring and mapping wolf recovery. Gehring and his students have been doing tracking and howling surveys. Conservation biology graduate student Maxwell Field (pictured above) feels a special connection to his wolf research because he is an Odawa tribal member. "This has been the best experience of my life," he said. "Wolves are a clan animal, and tribal members support all clan animals. We also like to see diversity of wildlife." |
