January 23, 2008
National sustainability educator Debra Rowe will bring new concepts and strategies to Central Michigan University in a session entitled, "Creating a Greener Planet and Better Future: Opportunities and Resources for You." Rowe will highlight ways that the campus community can improve its impact on the environment.
The presentation will take place from 3:30 to 5:00 PM on January 31, 2008 in the Charles V. Park Library Auditorium.
A professor of energy management, renewable energy technology and psychology for nearly three decades, Rowe currently serves as president of the U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development. She will share insight on what industry leaders are doing in response to serious environmental and economic global challenges and how students, faculty and staff at CMU can become better educated on sustainability issues and resource conservation.
Rowe also works with the Higher Education Association's Sustainability Consortium and is a senior advisor to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. She has served as a consultant on the integration of sustainability practices in a variety of areas in higher education, including curricula development, research, facilities and operations, and community partnerships.
Tom Rohrer, director of CMU's environmental studies program, was instrumental in bringing Rowe to campus. "She's a national expert on sustainability and specializes in consulting with universities, so we are very excited to have her come to CMU," Rohrer said. "It's a great opportunity to learn about what positive changes we can make in our professional and personal lives."
The event is free and open to the general public.
