Central Michigan University has selected Ian Davison to serve as the new dean of the College of Science and Technology.
Davison will begin his tenure June 1.
Davison was selected from a field of four candidates who visited CMU in March.
Julia Wallace, executive vice president and provost, is excited to have Davison join CMU's senior administrative team. "Dr. Davison brings to CMU a successful record of research, teaching and administrative expertise from his career as a faculty member at a public university and his work in the private sector," Wallace said. "I believe he will be a collaborative colleague with a great vision for the future of the College of Science and Technology."
Most recently, Davison worked as an independent researcher and an adjunct curator for the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Prior to that, he held a number of leadership posts with the academy, including vice president for strategic initiatives, chief operating officer and acting president, vice president for exhibits and education, and senior advisor to the president.
"I am delighted to have been chosen as the next dean of the College of Science and Technology," Davison said. "The decision to come to Central Michigan University was an easy one to make. I was very impressed by the university's leadership and by science and technology's exceptionally talented, dedicated, and enthusiastic faculty and staff."
"I look forward to working with both to ensure the college continues to serve the evolving needs of our students and of Michigan's citizens and industries."
Davison directed the Academy of Natural Sciences Estuarine Research Center in St. Leonard, Md., from 2001 until 2004. His teaching experience includes 16 years as a professor of marine sciences, botany and marine biology at the University of Maine.
He holds a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Westfield College, University of London, and a doctorate in biological sciences from the University of Dundee in Scotland.
Davison replaces Robert Kohrman who retired. Richard St. Andre is serving as interim dean.
