| The Chippewa River winds its way through the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, starting at two lakes in Isabella County, Lake Isabella and Coldwater Lake. The tributaries merge west of Mount Pleasant and flow through the city, then onto Midland County where it joins the Tittabawasse River in City of Midland. | |||
| While in Isabella County, the river flows through four Mount Pleasant parks and three Isabella County Parks. The river is used for recreation and as a water supply for the county and city. | |||
| For many years, students have used the river as a source for their research studying such aspects as water quality, water discharge, invertebrates, fish, sediment composition, bacteria, and community metabolism. | |||
