Bradley Fahlman
Professor of Chemistry
A textbook focusing on emerging scientific discipline has earned Central Michigan University professor Bradley Fahlman national recognition. The Text and Academic Affairs Authors Association selected Fahlman's "Materials Chemistry" to receive a Textbook Excellence (Texty) Award.
The textbook, which was written for advanced undergraduate and industry audiences, addresses the rapidly evolving field of inorganic, organic and nano-based materials.
The association is composed of professors and textbook authors across the country. Fahlman is pleased that a group of his peers hold his work in such high esteem.
"I am honored to be selected for this award and am grateful for the support of my colleagues at CMU who helped foster an environment where this project could be realized," he said.
The Texty award is a coveted honor presented to exceptional textbooks that have recently been published. There are eight categories, and Texty judges are veteran authors in appropriate subject areas. Entries are judged by at least three judges on the following criteria: informative and interesting, well-organized and well-prepared, up-to-date and appealing, and ease of communication for teaching purposes.
materials-chemistry-book Fahlman teaches courses in inorganic and materials chemistry at CMU. He also is conducting research on a number of projects that include the design of novel hafnium compounds, new materials for quantum dot sensitized solar cells, carbon nanofibers and chemical education methods.
Fahlman will be honored June 21 in Las Vegas at the 2008 TAA Conference, titled "TAA Awards Ceremony: Standing Out from the Competition," where he will formally receive the award.
